Network Engineer (Mid-to-Senior level role with a mix of Projects and Operations)

Consultant Sr. Network Engineer, working within the Internal IT Group of a global telecommunications and data center services company.
 
The Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, deployment and maintenance of critical internal network infrastructure.
It's a fast-paced, evolving company and the ideal candidate is a creative problem solver, comfortable with providing subject matter expertise and rapidly responding and resolving escalated issues (major incidents, P1 and P2).

Willingness to perform both the advanced level project tasks and the operational / physical layer duties (i.e. network equipment installation and cabling work) will be essential to success in this role.  
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Production network support and provide tier 2-3 diagnosis and advanced troubleshooting
  • Work with local and global teams to produce detailed designs and cost estimates for network solutions, adhering to best practice architecture standards
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
  • Perform hands-on, physical layer tasks such as network equipment installation and cabling work
  • Perform short-term and long-term network capacity planning
  • Develop and document network operations and monitoring processes and procedures
  • Implement network security as per the company policy and interface with Security teams
  • Research and test new network technologies with aims to fulfill current and future company needs
  • Other IT related duties requested by EIRE and the client.
 
 QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years working in complex IP network environments
  • Expertise with protocols including but not limited to TCP/IP, BGP, and OSPF
  • Configuring/Troubleshooting LAN Switching – VLAN, VTP, STP, EtherChannel, CoS, etc.
  • Strong functional knowledge of TCP/IP required
  • Good understanding of high availability fundamentals (HSRP and VRRP)
  • Proven proficiency and product knowledge of network devices
  • Experience in Cisco and Juniper products is mandatory
  • Strong analytical, design, engineering, planning and problem solving skills
  • Structured problem approach
  • Relevant experience with network management tools and utilities
  • Experience with network automation/scripting is desirable
  • Experience in network security skills is a plus
  • Professional communication skills using English (Japanese skill is not required but nice to have)
  • CCNA, CCNP certification is desirable
